Database Vocabulary
Database—a collection of data (information) on a specific topic stored in an organized manner
Table--the view the display the database as row and columns. The first row is reserved for the field name
Field-- Categories in a database; examples: names, grade, school(column)
Record-- A single entry of information in a data base. Example: all the information about one person and how they voted in the database (row)
Cells-- The intersection of a row and column
Data-- All records of information in a database, including the field
Primary Key-- a unique identifier for each person/product/event
Filter-- tool used to display only certain records the user wants to see (example: only students born in Africa)
Sort-- rearrange the records in a database in a specified alphabetical or numerical order
Ascending—to arrange alphabetically—A to Z (words/text) or to arrange numerically—Smallest to Largest (Numbers)
Descending—to arrange alphabetically—Z to A (words/text) or to arrange numerically—Largest to Smallest (Numbers)
Query-- To make a request for information from a database, it can be saved and recalled later and changed, printed etc…
